What’s next? Kenny Stabler as the Red Bird in Mystère? Joe Montana as Bob Gaudio in Jersey Boys?
Terry Bradshaw will be the first four-time Super Bowl champion quarterback to headline a show on the Strip, when he takes a Vegas stage for two nights at the Mirage. It’s no immaculate deception. Bradshaw will headline a one-man show that’s a Hail Mary pass from any motivational speaking symposium often favored by retired athletes. So what will we see?
Schtick: And lots of it. Bradshaw is forever self-effacing. A sample, as Bradshaw recalls his ill-fated rookie season with the Steelers: “You ever gone to work and had your ass booed? It ain’t a good feelin’! Even my mom booed me!”
A backing band and three vocalists: Yes, and they’re good ones, with Lorena Peril of Fantasy, Maren Wade (late of iCandy and Fantasy), Amanda Avila (a top-16 American Idol finisher) and Sarah Jessica Rhodes ("V -- The Ultimate Variety Show.")
Original songs: Written by Nashville composer Ken Johnson, they include, “Goin’ Deep.” Sample lyric: “I couldn’t eat and I couldn’t sleep. I could only think about goin’ deep!”
Bradshaw singing: When in doubt, sing it loud, is Bradshaw’s philosophy. He also ducks into Elvis’ tenor occasionally, a quality that is, like everything else in this show, entirely inherent.
Terry Bradshaw June 28 & 29, 7:30 p.m., $50-$70. Mirage, 791-7111.
