When bringing together the talent, training and athleticism of Cirque du Soleil and the Nevada Ballet Theatre, you’re bound to have an original show that combines the contemporary and classical. And there’s a chance it will include a number blending breakdance and ballet.
A Choreographers’ Showcase returns to the Mystère Theatre for its sixth edition October 6 and 13 with 51 artists from Cirque and NBT collaborating on works choreographed by artists in each camp—three from NBT dancers and five from KÀ, Zarkana and Love cast members. Illustrating the interconnectedness of dancers, this year’s program also includes “Read My Hips,” a piece choreographed by Cirque collaborator Daniel Ezralow for Hubbard Street Dance Chicago back in 1990. It was staged for A Choreographers' Showcase by Mystère artistic director David Gomez, who performed the piece as a dancer with Hubbard Street. As James Canfield, NBT’s artistic director, says, “We always have this full circle.”
A Choreographers' Showcase October 6 & 13, 1 p.m., $25-$45. Treasure Island, 894-7222.
