The big question was, “Would he?”

As, in, “Show up.”

The “he” in this instance was Charlie Sheen. And the warlock-ian media lightning rod met every logistical challenge to fulfill his commitment early this morning to walk the red carpet and hang out for a couple of hours at Chateau Nightclub & Gardens at Paris Las Vegas.

He ended a performance of his “My Violent Torpedo of Truth/Defeat Is Not an Option” one-man show in San Francisco about 10 p.m. and took a private jet to Vegas, leaving skeptics to think there were too many variables for him to arrive at the appointed time, or any time, in Vegas.

But he made it, although he walked the carpet a bit later than the announced 1:30 a.m. arrival time. Making his first visit to the city since January, Sheen arrived just before 2 a.m., carried by a burst of photo flashes from a cluster of photographers. He was met, predictably, by shouts of, “Charlie! You’re a winner!” and “Charlie, you are the man!” from dozens of fans pinned behind the club’s velvet ropes.

Sheen spent about 3 minutes -- 1 minute for each “goddess” in his preferred girlfriend lineup -- on the carpet, then moved into the club. The one goddess accompanying him on the Chateau carpet was reality TV star Natalie Kenly.

Sheen did stop before leaving the carpet and took a question from freelancer Tom Dietz, working for Life and Style magazine, who asked Sheen about his relationship with Megan Levant, the newest member of Sheen’s girlfriend triumvirate.

It was not a question Sheen wanted to hear.

“What does that have to do with anything?” Sheen snapped, poking (for lack of a better verb) at Dietz with a Sugar Factory-supplied green lollipop. “You’ve ruined it for everybody.”

According to an official news release about Sheen’s appearance, he was overheard opining that "Vegas is the Disneyland for grown-ups" and that "you never really know what to expect when you come here ... there's just something in the air with Vegas.”

Exactly. It’s the type of place where scores of onlookers will wait hours to watch Charlie Sheen stand on a red carpet holding a green lollipop.

Rob Patterson of Filter was with Sheen much of the time. Reportedly, Sheen’s friends who joined him at his VIP table at Chateau wore T-shirts reading, “CBS Can't Break Sheen.” Others who walked the carpet were Jack Osbourne; the cast of MTV's “The Hard Times of R.J. Berger,” including Paul Iacono, Amber Lancaster, Jareb Dauplaise, Jayson Blair and Kara Taitz; “True Blood” werewolf Joe Manganiello; Playboy Playmate Sara Underwood; and “The Bold and the Beautiful” star Zack Conroy.

In the end, the club could not have been more pleased.

“It went perfectly smooth,” John Lewis, Chateau VP of marketing and events, said after Sheen was led into the club. “He’s a great guy, very friendly. The whole thing went off like clockwork. It was flawless.”

As he said that, Lewis smiled. Dare we say it? He looked like a … winner.
