VegasVille Photo of the Week: A different sort of ‘Singin’ in the Rain’ performance at Palms

As I’m running around town, I often fire away, photographically, at many of the uniquely Las Vegas scenes playing out in front of me. I shoot odd stage scenes, unusual shoes, particularly photogenic cocktails, tourists carrying plastic footballs brimming with beer. That sort of thing.

My iPhone camera roll is filled with dozens of photos that usually sit there, viewed only by those I show the photos to by holding the phone up and saying, “Check this out.”

I’m going to start posting my favorites each week. I start with the shot of the unidentified guy who decided that there is a time and place to gallivant while shirtless, and that Sunday’s downpour at the Palms was that time and place. The story behind this shot:

When: About 2 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 11.

Where: The Palms, at the entrance leading into the sports book.

The Circumstance: As rain pounded the valley that Sunday morning, you could hear the storm’s thundering impact from inside the casino. Suddenly, visitors began moving fast toward the glass doors facing the hotel’s surface parking lot. There, a shirtless man was dancing, spinning, performing some sort of addled “Singin’ in the Rain” tribute. This went on for 15 or 20 minutes.

“By that man a shot!” someone shouted. That someone was me.
