Slipping back into the club scene amid scant pomp and circumstance, Michael Grimm has returned to Ovation at Green Valley Ranch. His first show was April 21.

The soul-voiced, soul-eyed and even soul-hatted Grimm is playing Ovation on Saturdays at 8 p.m. The May 12 show is 11 p.m. (doors 10:30) and he is dark May 19. Also, Grimm is booked at Access Showroom at Aliante at 8 p.m. on May 11.

In all cases, the cover is $5.

Grimm, you will recall, won “America’s Got Talent” in September 2010, topping tiny vocal phenom Jackie Evancho in the season finale. Grimm was awarded $1 million (which he used, in part, to buy his grandparents a new home in his original hometown of Waveland, Miss.) and a recording deal with Epic Records, through which he released the album “Michael Grimm” last spring.

The return to small Las Vegas venues is a curious outcome, to put it mildly, for the 32-year-old singer-songwriter. Grimm has said that he’s mostly been bouncing with the tide ever since he was crowned champion of “AGT.”

He toured in support of Stevie Nicks in 2011 and in November and December took on a 2-week residency at Flamingo Showroom when Donny & Marie were off to Chicago with their holiday production show. The shows did OK, but many fans said prices were a too-rich $50 a shot. Earlier this year, Grimm was poking around the Lounge at the Palms, too, asking about a weekly gig there before that conversation simply dropped.

Now Grimm has returned to one of the venues he played before ever auditioning for “AGT.” Grimm has always stressed that he just loves singing and playing music, and he cares hardly if it’s in front of dozens or thousands of fans. The upshot for those who really dig and support what Grimm does is he’s doing it for next to nothing every weekend at an intimate venue.

But what a mercurial trek it’s been for one of the good and gifted artists in Las Vegas.
