Wynn rings dinner bell with discounted menus

For the sake of this exercise, imagine what a three-course meal might cost you at the Wynn’s Alex restaurant. Keep in mind while you do that chef Alessandro Stratta’s elegant French cuisine has been awarded two stars by the Michelin Guide, was given the Mobil Travel Five Star Award in 2007 and 2008 and the AAA Five Diamond Award of Excellence for both years, as well. (The kitchen has lots of plaques in it.) Now, picture an appetizer of Maine sea scallops served with two colors of asparagus, organic polenta and sweet sausage followed by Hawaiian onaga (snapper) with taro puree and young coconut and a dessert dubbed the Crunchy Chocolate Caramel Bombe. If you’re thinking that meal doesn’t come cheap, you’re right.

And you’re wrong, too. While you’ll likely (and hopefully) never dine at Alex for Mon Ami Gabi prices, the entire meal described above can be had for a relative steal - $95 when you dine Wednesday through Saturday before 7 p.m. Not cheap, but cheaper.

Alex isn’t the only place laying out the discount welcome mat. As part of the Taste of Wynn promotion, 10 Wynn and Encore restaurants are offering prix fixe menus specially-priced to get diners in the door during less-than-busy hours. Ranging from $29 at Wazuzu to Alex’s $95 offering, the menus boast dishes like Abruzzi style seafood stew at Bartolotta and Daniel Boulud Brasserie’s steak frites, all for significantly less than a comparable dinner would run without the discount.

Whether you take TOW as great way to save at a favorite eatery or a convincing excuse to try out a new one, when you walk into Wynn or Encore you’ll likely hear a new sound amid the slot machines, dealers and tourists. It’s the dinner bell ringing. Feeling hungry?
