Meatball Spot, the casual Italian-American restaurant that made its debut at the Town Square mall adjacent to the movie theater, is getting set to open at its new location at Planet Hollywood’s Miracle Mile Shops in December. Just steps away from the theater that will host the new Britney Spears residency—Brit’s an investor in Meatball Spot (really)—the new space will boast an exposed brick interior and a new menu stacked with varieties of meatballs and sauces, sandwiches, flatbreads and a customizable salad bar.

What about Town Square? Meatball Spot’s sister restaurant, Sugar Factory, recently opened there. Sugar Factory already has a restaurant at Paris and sweets shops dotting Las Vegas Boulevard. The new Town Square bistro is its first Las Vegas location off the Strip and serves breakfast, lunch and dinner. A grand opening party is set for December 6.

Two significant losses to the local restaurant scene: P.J. Clarke’s, a New York institution that opened in the Forum Shops at Caesars in 2011, closed weeks ago, and on Spring Mountain Road, Café de Japon closed recently. The latter was likely the Valley’s only kissaten, a Japanese coffee house.

A handful of casino restaurants have closed temporarily for renovation. The Palms’ N9NE Steakhouse is set to re-open in mid-December with a fresh look and a few new menu additions. Until it comes back to life, there are a few steakhouse staples available at Nove Italiano atop the Palms’ Fantasy Tower. At Wynn, both Wing Lei and Bartolotta Ristorante di Mare are scheduled to re-open on December 21 with new designs.

Grape Street Café, celebrating 16 years this month, is offering diners a complimentary slice of chocolate anniversary cake through November 30 and a “buy one, get one” special on beer or wine on November 21, the restaurant’s actual anniversary. The friendly neighborhood wine bar also is launching a new wine tasting series on the second Tuesday of each month from 6 to 8 p.m., four wines for $5.
