Dining News & Notes: Guy Fieri’s El Burro Borracho arrives, Other Mama celebrates and more

Guy Fieri is known for doing things quietly. Okay, maybe not, but his El Burro Borracho Mexican restaurant did open quietly at the Rio hotel and casino on Friday, March 4. The restaurant is open daily from 4 to 10 p.m.

In honor of the return of the International Pizza Expo to Las Vegas this week, Pizza Rock at Green Valley Ranch is offering a specialty pizza, the Sinferno ($17), created by Pizza Rock Sacramento chef Billy Lundgren, through March 12. The pie features three different sauces, three different cheeses, Calabrese peppers and sausage and crimini mushrooms.

D. Vino Italian Food & Wine Bar at Monte Carlo is in the midst of its seventh annual Artichoke Festival, running through March 25, in which Castroville, California-grown ‘chokes are being featured through six different dishes on the menu ($13-$19).

New westside favorite Other Mama is celebrating its first anniversary by offering $1 oysters and $1 Pabst Blue Ribbon beers for a month, from March 17 through April 17.

Dog Haus, the celebrated California hot dogs, sausages and burgers concept, is set to open its first Nevada location on March 18 at 4480 Paradise Road. To commemorate its arrival, Dog Haus will give away hot dogs on opening day from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m.

Cantina Laredo at Tivoli Village brings back its quarterly tequila dinner series on March 19 at 7 p.m. when chef Damon Workman presents a four-course meal with Don Julio cocktail pairings. Reservations are $50 and can be made by calling 702-202-4511.

Also celebrating an anniversary is Sprinkles Cupcakes at the Linq Promenade, which will mark two years on March 21 with gifts, giveaways and a social media contest. The Sprinkles Cupcake ATM will disperse one gift card to win free cupcakes for a year on that day, and the best online photo using the hashtag #SprinklesTurnsTwo will win free cupcakes for a year, too.

Border Grill at Mandalay Bay is launching a new patio dinner series on March 21 at 6 p.m. with a Spring Break Clam Bake, a massive bonfire feast engineered by chef Jamaal Taherzadeh. Tickets for the first event are $97 and can be purchased at bordergrill.com. Future events include the Farm Fresh dinner on April 22, the Tour of Tequilas on May 19 and the Amor a la Carte on June 17.
